Commuting on Banur-Lalru link road a risky affair

The Banur-Lalru link road has turned into an accident-prone area due to the absence of barricades and street lights. There are trenches on both sides of the road due to a canal choe.

 Local residents said accidents had become a routine affair on the road, but the authorities failed to take the issue seriously. They said a number of fatalities had been witnessed in the past a few years.

Trilochan Anand, who owns a piece of land along the stretch, said the road had recently been re-carpeted but the authorities concerrned failed to put any barricade to alert commuters. 

The Irrigation Department has constructed a choe along the road, digging its both sides He added that a truck, fell off the road last night.

Another resident said travelling on the road had become a risky affair. He said the authorities should ensure safety of commuters by erecting some barricades and signboards.

 Hardiyal Singh Kamboj, MLA, Rajpura, said he would take up the matter with the authorities cocerned.  Officials of the Irrigation Department could not be contacted as it was a holiday today. — OC
