Con man makes off with Rs 2.50L from car of HP minister’s wife

Chandigarh, October 8

Valuables and cash were stolen from two vehicles in different parts of the city. In one of the incidents, complainant Rajni Thakur, a native of Kullu and wife of Govind Thakur, Forest, Transport, Youth Services and Sports Minister, Himachal Pradesh, reported that her car (HP 66 0001) was parked near Gopal Sweets at the Sector 8 market on Madhya Marg and the driver, Govind Pal Singh, was seated inside it. A miscreant told the driver that currency notes were lying outside the vehicle. As soon as the driver came out of the vehicle, the miscreant made off with a bag containing Rs 2.50 lakh, a metal necklace and documents from the vehicle on October 7.

The police were informed, who registered a case at the Sector 3 police station. The police said they were scrutinising the footage of CCTV cameras installed outside showrooms in the market.

Another theft incident was reported from Sector 22. Complainant Chirag, a resident of Hisar district in Haryana, reported that someone broke the glass of his car and stole a bag containing five gold rings, two gold bangles, two sets of earrings and a mangal sutra. The car was parked outside a house when the incident took place. The police have registered a case. —TNS
