Craze for No. 0001 rages

For a whopping Rs 10.64 lakh, which is sufficient to buy a new sedan or compact SUV, Kanwaljit Singh Walia, owner of Mohali-based commando caterers, pocketed three luxury numbers, including 0001, during an auction for series ‘CH01BC’ held at the RLA office in Sector 17 here today.
Walia’s highest bid of Rs 8.01 lakh fetched him No. 0001. He shelled out Rs 2.02 lakh for No. 0011 and Rs 61,000 for No. 0026. Although the highest bidder did not wish to reveal the vehicle’s make for which he has bought the ‘CH01BC-0001’ number, sources close to his family, said he bought it for an Activa ‘scooter’ for the time being.
Walia has purchased both numbers, 0001 and 0011, to gift his son on his 4th marriage anniversary which falls on May 11. He has bought 0026 for his nephew.
“I want to keep it a surprise till May 11. The first two numbers are meant for the cars of my son and daughter-in-law while 0026 is for my nephew, who stays with us. I don’t want to reveal the vehicle’s model on which ‘CH01BC-0001’ will be used. However, the other two numbers are for SUVs,” stated Walia.
