The members of the governing body of the Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development (CRRID), including Chairperson RP Bambah, faculty members, staff and students met at CRRID to condole the demise of Prof Yash Pal and pay tributes to him.
Prof Yash Pal was a member of the governing body of CRRID and the CRRID Society for two decades and a frequent visitor to the institute for interaction with the faculty.
The CRRID Director General highlighted the profile, achievements and contribution of Prof Yash Pal to the world of science, education and policy making over the past five decades. His contributions were recognised in various awards and felicitations as he was conferred with the Padma Vibhushan in 2013, among other honours.
Prof Bambah recounted his long association with Prof Yash Pal and his interactions with him in Chandigarh and at Panjab University as he was a close contemporary of Prof Yash Pal. He dwelt upon the life and contributions of Prof Yash Pal and said, “His is an irreparable loss to the country and the scientific community, but we should celebrate Prof Yash Pal’s life and his contributions to the world of science and academics.”
VK Sibal appreciated the scientific temper of Prof Yash Pal in his personal life and his columns in The Tribune and lamented the loss to the country. Dr Rashpal Malhotra shared his personal interactions with Prof Yash Pal and his contributions to the governance of CRRID when he was member of the governing board. The meeting observed a one-minute silence in memory of Prof Yash Pal.
