Nearly 100 doctors and paramedical staff from Ivy Hospital participated in a cycle rally to mark World Earth Day here today.

The rally, which was flagged off by Arjuna awardee and Ropar SP Jagjit Singh Jallah and the hospital Director Dr Aruna Bhoy, commenced from the hospital at Sector 71 and passed through various parts of the town before culminating at the hospital.

The motive was to encourage people, especially office-goers to switch to eco-friendly mode of transport to reduce the dependence on vehicles.

Dr Kanwaldeep, Medical Director at the hospital, said cycling offered an eco-friendly, healthy and inexpensive mobility option. It complemented public transport and gave rise to local economic development, she maintained.

Dr Bhoy said they also sensitised the hospital staff, including nurses, technicians and other workers, on environmental issues through some competitions, which were organised today.
