As per ancient wisdom, the guru or teacher had been eulogised as supreme and accordingly disciples of guru Kanhaiya Lal, a legendary guru of kathak from Jaipur ghrarna and that of guru Yogesh Sharma paid rich tributes to him through dance performances in the 11th edition of annual programme titled ‘Kadam’. The programme was organised by Nritya Kala Sangam at Navrang Theatre here today.

Prodigious Unnati Sharma gave a majestic start to the programme with a ‘Ganpati stuti’ before a 20-minute spectacular performance from Kanhari Pinge, who presented a ‘tarrana’ in ‘dadra’ and ‘teen tal’, besides executing ‘tode tukde’, ‘tihais’, ‘parans’ and ‘gat nikas’. Both danseuses are disciples of guru Yogesh Sharma.

Yogesh Sharma, the son and disciple of Guru Kanhaiya Lal, presented ‘Krishan Vandna’ and delineated kathak syllables like ‘uthan’, ‘ganesh paran’, ‘Chakradhar praran’ and five ‘jatis’ of ‘tatkar’ with perfection. His compositions were simple yet subtle so as the audience could connect easily. He displayed agile footwork, graceful hand, facial gestures and measured movements in all ‘mudras’.

Chief guest kathak guru, Dr Shobha Koser, SNA awardee, and foremost disciple of Guru Kanhaiya Lal blessed all performers and complimented Yogesh Sharma for carrying ahead the legacy of her guru.
