On the fifth day of the seven-day national workshop on ‘Qualitative research methods in social sciences’, Prof Narender Kumar from the JNU, New Delhi, gave a discourse on exclusion, equity and social justice.

Prof Sudarshan C Panigrahi from MS University, Baroda deliberated on data analysis techniques in social sciences. The ongoing workshop has been organised by the Centre for Academic Leadership and Education Management (CALEM), Department of Education, PU.

In the first session, Prof Narender Kumar dwelled on the scope and steps of both methods to be pursued by the researchers. In the next two sessions, Prof Sudarshan clarified the fundamental differences underlying the ontological and epistemological assumptions of qualitative and quantitative research. He explicated, with examples, on data analysis techniques specifically in social sciences. — TNS
