Mohali, July 3
No one in the city would be allowed to drink and drive and violators would be dealt with strictly, said Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan while addressing a road safety committee meeting at the District Administrative Complex here today.
The traffic police will keep tabs on offenders and issue them challans on the spot, he said. He said the development aimed at making people aware so that the flow of traffic could be controlled in the city.
Dayalan directed the officers of the departments concerned to specify traffic signs and speed limits on airport road and road leading to Phase 11 from Phase 3-5 roundabout. Likewise, traffic police officials were asked to increase patrolling, install CCTV cameras along the road and fill potholes on the roads. “All this work would be started as a pilot project,” he added.
He said arrangements should be made to find out ways to control traffic on roads where jams are a routine affair. “I will visit the black spots with traffic police officials. Remedial actions would be taken soon to tackle the problem,” he said.
