Deepika leads Hry to 6-2 win against Odisha

CHANDIGARH:Haryana girls opened their campaign in the 9th Hockey India Sub-Junior Women’s National Championship (A Division) with a 6-2 win over Hockey Odisha.

Haryana girls opened their campaign in the 9th Hockey India Sub-Junior Women’s National Championship (A Division) with a 6-2 win over Hockey Odisha. 

Deepika’s scored a treble (31st, 33rd, 39th) after Ashima Rout had put Odisha ahead in the 12th minute to help Hockey Haryana to a convincing victory on Monday.    

Meanwhile, after tasting defeat in their first match on Monday, Sports Authority of India put together a better show to beat Hockey Andhra Pradesh 5-0. 

Sushnita Panna opened the scoring for the SAI in the seventh minute through a penalty corner. Sanjana Horo then struck in the 10th and 16th minutes to make it 3-0 for the side. 

Poonam Mundu (19’) and Shaifali (26’) added their names to the scoresheet in the 19th and 26th minutes respectively to seal a seal a 5-0 win for the SAI.

In another match, Uttar Pradesh Hockey handed a 10-1 drubbing to Hockey Coorg. Skipper Pooja Yadav (20th, 36th, 58th) and Shashi Kala (34th, 35th, 59th) scored three goals each for Uttar Pradesh after Hina Bano (14th, 18th) set the tone for the match with a couple of quick goals. Peetambari Yadav (48th, 53rd) also added a brace to the Uttar Pradesh tally.  

SH Brunda scored the solitary goal for Hockey Coorg in the 33rd minute.

Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu registered 5-2 win over Hockey Madhya Pradesh in the third match of the day. 

Madhya Pradesh took the lead in eighth minute through Garima, but Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu roped on S Soniya’s hat-trick to seal a 5-2 win for the side. Soniya struck in the 10th, 21st and 42nd minutes, skipper Rohini Dev (39th) and Pratiksha Kesarwani (54th) scored a goal each for Tamil Nadu.

Hockey Gangpur-Odisha beat Delhi Hockey 8-2 in the last match of the day.

Pratibha Ekka opened the scoring for Hockey Gangpur-Odisha in the third minute and Nikita Toppo doubled their lead in the seventh minute.

The side then went on to score three more goals in the second quarter — Sunita Xaxa hit home in the 17th and 30th minutes, while Sushila Bada struck in the 26th minute. 

Captain Jyoti Chhatri (37th) and Sonia Topno (42nd) scored a goal each in the third quarter, while Doli Bhoi sounded the wooden plank in the 46th minute to seal an 8-2 win for Hockey Gangpur-Odisha. Delhi Hockey managed a goal apiece in last two quarters of the match.
