Patiala, November 3
The 31st convocation of Thapar University, Patiala, was held here today. A total of 1,731 students received degrees, including 73 PhD degrees, 693 master of engineering, sciences, humanities and management and 961 bachelor of engineering.
Prof Joseph Klafter, President, Tel Aviv University, was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr G Viswanathan, founder and Chancellor of the VIT University, Vellore, was the guest of honour. Thapar University President Gautam Thapar presided over the function and awarded medals.
Gautam said the partnership with Trinity College Dublin and Tel Aviv University was part of the university’s vision to be transformative both nationally and globally and continue at the forefront of technology, scientific development and education.
The proud award winners included Divanshu Kapila, who received the President’s Medal for securing the highest CGPA, Celeste Goel won the S Ranbir Singh Memorial Medal for best all-round performance, Shreya was awarded the Prof V Rajaraman Computer Science Engineering Award, and Naman Garg was awarded the S Ram S Sidhu Memorial Medal.
Meanwhile, Thapar University has signed a comprehensive institutional agreement with Tel Aviv University Israel. The MoU includes research, teaching and student exchange programme. Tel Aviv University is consistently ranked in the top 20 universities in the world in terms of scientific citations and among the top 100 universities internationally. — TNS
