Degrees conferred on UIET students

Chandigarh, May 5

Praising the Narendra Modi-led government, Rakesh Bharti Mittal, Vice-President of Bharti Enterprises, said the present government had been taking bold decisions.

Mittal was in the city to attend an event for distributing degrees among students at the UIET. 

Calling the introduction of Goods and Services Tax (GST) a big-bang reform, he said it involved only teething problems.

He said: “India has the most liberal FDI (Foreign Direct Policy). India is opening up whereas several countries are using protectionist measures. Our country is up by 30 positions in the ease of doing business. The target is to come in the first 50.”

Degrees were awarded to 469 BE graduates from the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), 66 ME/MTech post graduates of UIET, 88 BE graduates of Hoshiarpur centre of the PU, 101 BE graduates and 28 ME post graduates of chemical engineering department at the PU. Assistant professors and research scholars from the UIET and chemical engineering department, whose research work was published in reputed journals, were also honoured on the occasion.

Dr Manisha Kaushal, faculty member of the UIET, was honoured for her work on improving the technique for object verification in videos. Dr Sanjeev Gautam was awarded for research in photocatalysis science which is used for pollutant degradation and water cleaning. Gautam has publications in catalysis communication, catalysis letters, chemical engineering journal, etc. 


767 awarded degrees at GCG-42

Chandigarh: The Postgraduate Government College for Girls, Sector 42, organised its 32nd annual convocation at the college auditorium on Saturday. A total of 767 students were given degrees. Prabhpreet Kaur of Microbial Biotechnology, Chinar Thakur of MA Political Science and Shubhpreet Kaur of BSc Biotechnology (Hons) were awarded trophies for standing first in Panjab University. Prof BS Ghuman, Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala, was the chief guest on the occasion. He stressed upon the mantras of success — hard work, right outlook, honesty, persistence and unflinching spirit. College Principal Binu Dogra highlighted the achievements of the college which included 70 positions in the university exams, 38 prizes, including 10 first prizes, nine second prizes, and 19 third prizes in the PU Zonal Youth Festival. She congratulated the faculty and students as the college has been placed among the top 10 per cent colleges in the National Institution Ranking FrameWork-2018. The college has been recently selected under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan — a national programme to involve higher education institutions in the sustained development of village clusters. —TNS
