Dera Bassi MC office-bearers elected
Dera Bassi, January 19
Mukesh Gandhi, councillor from ward number 15, and ward number 1 councillor Manvinder Pal Singh were unanimously elected the Senior Vice-President and Vice-President, respectively, of the Dera Bassi Municipal Council during a meeting on the MC premises here today.
Both posts have been vacant since April, 2016, after the term of the previous office-bearers ended.
Earlier, the elections for the post of the Vice-President, scheduled for December 27 last year, were postponed by the Dera Bassi SDM citing lack of security.
Bhupinder Saini, president of the Dera Bassi Municipal Council, local MLA NK Sharma and Dera Bassi Sub-Divisional Magistrate Paramdeep Singh held a meeting with the elected councillors at the civic body’s office before taking the final call.
Bhupinder Saini said Mukesh Gandhi’s name for the post of the Senior Vice-president was proposed by Naresh Kumar Upneja, councillor of ward number 14, which was seconded by ward number 16 councillor Hari Om Dhiman, after which Gandhi was declared the Senior Vice-President of the Dera Bassi Municipal Council. Similarly, Manvinder Pal Singh was nominated for the post of Vice-President by councillor Harjinder Singh Rangi. Following which Manvinder was unanimously elected the Vice-President of the civic body.
Dera Bassi MLA NK Sharma, who is an ex-officio member of the House and has the right to vote, met each councillor on Thursday before taking the decision on the nominees for the posts in the civic body. —OC
