Despite objections raised by officials over erroneous seniority list of principals and officials, the Deputy Director Adult Education-II, Alka Mehta, was recommended as the District Education Officer (DEO), in a file moved by higher officials of the UT Education Department.

However, the recommendation was turned down by Education Secretary BL Sharma on the grounds that the seniority list of principals and teachers was not in order.

Sharma said, “I am aware of the issue as I have the representation and had also got the file for approval of Alka Mehta as DEO, but as the seniority list is not ready no promotion can be give. The decision will be taken after the seniority list is finalised.”

The contention in the existing seniority list was raised by Deputy District Education Officer Monica Maini, who submitted a representation to higher officials of the Education Department, claiming seniority over Alka Mehta as her post of joining was couple of months before Mehta.

However, department has not addressed the issue of Maini’s seniority. Despite concern raised by Maini many times through myriads of representations over the erroneous seniority list Mehta was recommended as the DEO by senior officials.

Alka Mehta could not be reached while Deputy DEO Monica Maini refused to comment on the issue.
