Chandigarh, May 3

Top seeds Dhairya Chadha and Sarthak Gandhi rallied from a set down to beat the Patiala pair of Harmanjeet Singh and Divjot Singh in the boys’ U-16 doubles final in the Roots-AITA Talent Series (TS-7) National Ranking Tennis Championship at Zirakpur on Thursday.

Dhairya and Sarthak lost the opening set 4-6 but fought hard to restore parity with a 7-6(4) win in the second set. The duo then humbled their opponents from Patiala 10-6 in the tie-breaker to clinch the title. 

Earlier, in the semifinals, Dhairya And Sarthak had humbled Aditya Chauhan and Lakshya Gupta 6-4 6-2 to set up the title clash with Harmanjeet and Divjot.

Sarthak in singles final

Sarthak, meanwhile, upset top seed Dhairya Chadha 6-1 6-4 to book a place in the boys’ U-16 singles final, where he will face Amitoj Singh. 

Amitoj packed off Sarthak Singla 6-0 6-0 in the semifinals.

In the boys’ U-14 semifinals, third seed Aditya Chauhan handed a 6- 6-2 drubbing to Lakshya Gupta, while Jivaj Chawla registered an easy 6-4 6-4 win over Harmanjeet Singh.

Bhumi Kakkar surprised top seed Maitreyi Phogat 6-4 6-2 in the girls’ U-14 semifinals, while Omisha came from behind to stun second seed Vanya Arora. 

Omisha lost the opening set 4-6, but came back strongly to level the scores with a 6-2 win in the second set before sealing the decider 6-4 to set up the title clash with Bhumi.
