Divya Drishti camera system to monitor cops’ conduct at traffic nakas in city

With an aim to bring transparency, professional conduct and curb corruption at traffic nakas, the Chandigarh Police on Tuesday launched the Divya Drishti camera system with the help of which police officials would be able to monitor the nakas by viewing live streaming of feed on their mobile phones and computers sitting in their office.

The system was launched on Tuesday by Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore at the auditorium of the Post Graduate Government College for Girls in Sector 42 here.

Speaking about the project, Shashank Anand, SSP, Traffic, said the cameras would enable police officers to view the activities of cops round the clock during enforcement drives.

“Each traffic checkpoint will have four high resolution night vision cameras with 360 degree view,” the SSP said.

The SSP said total 11 sets had been procured by the UT police at the cost of Rs 15 lakh.

“The cameras can also be used at the time of failure of the law and order situation to ensure better policing,” the SSP added.

The Administrator also launched an mobile application to provide assistance to motorists whose car gets towed away. The app will provide information about the towed vehicle to its owner.

“The vehicle owner will get to know from where he will get back his vehicle and what are the formalities for the same,” said a police official. On the occasion, the Administrator said Chandigarh should be made a model city where there would be no road accidents. He also urged people to click pictures of traffic violations done by motorists and send it to the traffic police for initiating necessary action.

The Administrator also asked the police to introduce the concept of stopping the traffic when a school bus is dropping or picking a child on roads in the city to ensure that there were no accidents involving children.

Mobile app to help locate towed vehicle

The ‘Towed Vehicle Search App’ which can be downloaded from the Google play store will enable a person to locate the vehicle if gets towed away in Chandigarh. Traffic police personnel before towing away the vehicle will click its picture and upload the same along with the registration number and challan number on the app. The vehicle owner after downloading the app can check where the police personnel have taken the vehicle and how it can be released.
