The Department of Punjab Historical Studies, Punjabi University, is holding Dr Ganda Singh Memorial Lecture on September 19.
Dr Navtej Singh, prof and head of the Department, said Dr Ganda Singh was the founder of the department and was a pioneer in the research on Punjab and Sikhs. Besides writing a number of books, Dr Ganda Singh had collected sources available on Punjab history in many languages.
He also started the annual Punjab History Conference and a biannual journal, ‘The Panjab Past Present’. It is in recognition to his enormous contribution that the department has instituted the annual memorial lecture. This time, an eminent historian from the Centre of Historical Studies, JNU, Prof Mridula Mukherjee, will deliver the lecture on ‘The Secular Nationalist Tradition in Punjab’. — TNS
