Chandigarh: Dr Gurjit Kaur, Associate Professor, Physiology, GMCH-32, and vice-president, Down Syndrome Society, got the award from the Down Syndrome Federation of India for outstanding efforts for the cause of Down syndrome. Fake number plate: Man held  

Zirakpur: The Zirakpur police on Sunday arrested a man for allegedly using a fake number plate on his vehicle. The police said the accused has been identified as Droniel, a resident of Panchkula. The police said a naka was laid near the Zirakpur-Patiala inter-section. The accused, who was coming from the Dera Bassi side, was signalled to stop for checking. During the checking, it has come to the fore that the accused had put up a fake number plate on his car. A case has been registered by the police in this regard and the investigation is on. OC
 
‘Realtors owe Rs 37 cr to MC’
 
Kharar:  As many as 28 builders owe Rs 37 crore to the local municipal council. The amount is to be paid by them against several projects sanctioned 2011 onwards. This information was given by Jagmohan Singh Kang, former MLA, Kharar, while addressing mediapersons here recently. Kang said the funds collected from the builders could be utilised to provide basic facilities like sewerage, drinking water, roads and street lights to residents of Kharar. He alleged that during the previous SAD-BJP regime, a lot of irregularities had taken place in local bodies due to which an unplanned growth and development took place, much to the chagrin of the public. Kang assured that the present Congress government in the state, under the leadership of Capt Amarinder Singh, was committed to holistic development of Kharar, Kurali, Nayagoan and Kansal in the constutuency. Theft at shop in Sec 41

Chandigarh: A theft was reported at a shop in Butrela village, Sector 41, here. Thieves managed to decamp with Rs 60,000 in cash and some equipment from the shop. According to the police, the complainant, Jaspreet Singh, alleged that someone had stolen away Rs 60,000 in cash, two cheques and three printing machine heads worth Rs 3 lakh from his shop. A case has been registered. TNS

Chandigarh: The police arrested Rahul, a resident of Dadu Majra village, while possessing eight banned injections. He was arrested from near the road dividing Sectors 15 and 24. TNS

Luggage stolen from bus

Chandigarh: A luggage containing Rs 20,000 in cash, a cellphone and clothes was stolen from a bus at the ISBT-17, here, on Saturday.  The police said Amit Kumar, a native of Uttarakhand, alleged someone had stolen his luggage. A case has been registered. TNS

Eight more dengue cases

Chandigarh: Eight more dengue cases were reported from the city on Sunday. An official of the Health Department said no death due to dengue had been reported so far. TNS
