Dr Pushpinder Singh Gill, a senior-most professor at Punjabi University, resigned as Dean, External Centres, citing ‘ignorance’ from the authorities concerned over unresolved issues and alleged corruption in the varsity.
While tendering his resignation, Dr Pushpinder Singh Gill, professor, School of Management Studies, said he had made several efforts to solve the issues related to external centres, including excessive expenditure, low enrolment and high number of faculty, among others.
Dr Gill had taken charge over external centres in February this year. He said he had sent numerous letters to heads of centres related to problems, including their absence, expenditure and other issues after taking charge. He said the same was pointed out to the authorities, but to no avail.
He alleged that corrupt practices were going on in the university. He said, “I have observed high level of corrupt practices in the university. The same have been communicated to the Vice-Chancellor and other authorities, but no action has been so far. It seems that some of them may be hand in glove with erring officials.”
He said, “Reasons behind low admission count at various centres are numerous but the prominent is absence of staff from their designated places”
Dr Gill said he had suggested rationalisation of staff among various centres, which could have helped in reducing financial burden.
Dr BS Ghuman, Vice-Chancellor, and Dean, Academic Affairs, Dr GS Batra, were not available for comments. Registrar Dr Manjit Singh Nijjar said only Dean, Academic Affairs, and the V-C could give statement on the matter.
