The Election Department will start electors’ verification programme (EVP) from September 1 to September 30.

The programme will be run to encourage citizens to come forward to authenticate existing elector details by giving a copy of any of the documents such as passport, driving licence, Aadhaar, ration card or any other document approved by the commission.

People can also verify their electoral roll details through voter helpline mobile app, NVSP portal, by visiting common service centre or by submitting a hard copy of forms through BLOs.

A meeting was today held under the chairmanship of Ajoy Kumar Sinha, Chief Electoral Officer-cum-Finance Secretary, Chandigarh, with officials of the Department of Education, Department of Technical Education, Punjab University, Punjab Engineering College and all colleges of Chandigarh regarding the implementation of the programme under the SVEEP plan.

The Chief Electoral Officer directed officials of the departments concerned and college representatives to help in sensitisation, motivation and mobilisation of faculty members, students and their family members to participate in the programme. He further directed all campus ambassadors to supervise their teams periodically.

Sinha also requested active involvement of electoral literacy clubs, NSS and NCC volunteers during the campaign period. At the end of this exercise, all heads of the institutions will submit a certificate that all students who are registered voters have verified their electoral details and who have not enrolled as voters have applied for the registration as voters during the Special Summary Revision 2020.

Mandip Singh Brar, Additional Chief Electoral Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner, Saurabh Mishra, SDM (S), Sudhanshu Gautam, SDM (E), Jagjit Singh, Joint Chief Electoral Officer, and Rubinderjit Singh Brar, Director School Education, were also present.
