Chandigarh, March 22
A symposium on ‘Advances in Biological Anthropology’ to honour Prof Rajan Gaur, a palaeoanthropologist, was inaugurated by Prof Shankarji Jha, Dean of University Instructions, Panjab University (PU), on Friday.
He spoke about the concept of human evolution according to the ‘vedas’. Dr Kewal Krishan, coordinator of the symposium, elaborated on the event’s objectives. An abstract book of the symposium, including a collation of the research work of Prof Rajan Gaur, was released by the dignitaries.
Gaur spoke about the continuation of the legacy of fossil primates and human evolution.
Prof SL Malik, former Prof and Head, University of Delhi, spoke on ‘Acclimatisation to high-altitude environment: A success story of human species’ and concluded that different high-attitude populations respond differently depending upon the degree, kind and amount of stresses.
Dr Harvinder Kaur, PGI, won the first prize for in a poster-presentation contest. in all, 17 posters were presented in a session chaired by Professor SL Malik and Professor Anil Bhalla
Prof RK Singla, Dean, Research, discussed the importance of biological anthropology.
He advised the scholars to put in hard work.
