Lalru, November 4
The police have busted a racket with the arrest of eight of its gang members involved in the preparation and use of fake identity cards of Army, police and various other government officials for allegedly helping people/commuters avoid paying toll at the Dappar toll plaza.
An official associated with the Dappar toll plaza had complained to the police a few days ago regarding people using cards that belonged to some other persons or police personnel, who were exempted from toll.
In the latest case at toll plaza on the National Highway, a man produced a fake ID card claiming to be one of the employees of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to evade toll, said an official at the Dappar toll plaza.
Finding it suspicious, when officials cross checked with their seniors at the headquarters, identity card was found to be fake, official added. Before officials could react, the man fled from the spot, official said.
The police after registering an FIR in this connection have started probe. The police first arrested Brijesh Bhardwaj and Mohit Sharma, residents of Chandigarh and Haryana, respectively, and on their disclosure, six of their other accomplices, Varinder Rana, Aniket, Sachin, Sangeet, Arvind Kumar and Rajiv Kumar, were arrested later. Fake identity cards of government officials and that too attested, were recovered, the police added. The SHO said, “We have procured three-day police remand of the suspects for interrogation.” — OC
