Chandigarh, November 14
After Chandigarh Tribune highlighted the inconvenience caused to commuters due to the faulty traffic lights at the Sector 33/45 intersection, the engineering wing of the UT Administration today swung into action and fixed the problem.
The traffic light used to turn red well before the time displayed on the lights, posing a threat to the commuters.
A motorist was challaned by the traffic police for jumping the red light for “no fault of his”. The light was green with 19 seconds remaining when it suddenly turned red.
The faulty LED screen was today replaced with a new one. The timer at the lights was, however, not switched on.
Deepak Sharma, who had complained about the faulty traffic lights to the traffic police after he was challaned for jumping the red light, said the challan issued to him should be cancelled now.
“I am waiting for the traffic police to rectify their mistake. They should also take action against the cop who challaned me despite being told about the faulty lights,” he said.
