Folk melodies of Kumaon reverberate at Tagore Theatre

The splendour and serenity of pristine traditional folk music of hilly regions of Kumaon, Uttrakhand, came alive in a specially designed cultural capsule 'Kumauni Kautik-2017', an Uttrakhandi Sanskritik Sandhya, presented 

by the artistes from Uttrakhand, Delhi and the city at Tagore Theatre here today. 

The 26th annual edition of the cultural bonanza organised by the Chandigarh Kumaoni Sabha presented a variety of entertainment programme reflecting the living cultural traditions, ethos and aspirations of the community nurturing mutual love and brotherhood. 

The programme opened up with 'Nanda Devi ki Doli', goddess of mountains, amidst beating of dhols and damaos. Under the direction of Kumaoni Kautik and singer Anand Koraga, who later sang 'Ghunngarali Dhatuli Lagi Rahi Chaumaas' before Parkash Kala, presented 'Hit Meri Ladima' song. Also Kaushal Pandey's flute version 'Ch Aa Lili Bakiri Lilli Chama Chama Chama' was well received as also  Neeraj Pawar's  Jaya Maa Nanda Devi'. Besides, Deepa Pandey presenting another song. Spells laughter came from Shibu Rawat's presentation laced with wit and humour.  

Later,  Bhagwat Manraal and party presented Nanda Devi doli, hudka dance, ghasyari dance, jonsaar's taandi and jhora chapeli .

The 'Kumaon darpan samarika 2017' was also launched by Chief guest Kunwar Singh Pawar MLA, other dignitaries and Sabha functionaries who presented mementos, Sabha president Bachhan Singh Nagarkoti  expressed gratitude to guests artistes and members. —OC
