Former PPSC member Deol passes away
Patiala, October 29
Dr Harbhajan Singh Deol (83), a former member of the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC), breathed his last at his house here at 4 am today.
Deol is survived by his wife, Balwant Kaur, and five daughters. Deol, born on April 27 in 1936 at Boparai Kalan in Ludhiana, did his postgraduation at the Centre for Russian and East European Studies at the University of Birmingham, UK
Equipped with a critical and keen outlook to analyse social and cultural behaviour of people, Harbhajan Singh Deol remained a keen observer and an active participant of the trade union movement — both in England and India.
Before Harbhajan joined the faculty of Punjabi University, Patiala, as a Reader in the Department of Public Administration, he had been elected the president of Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers’ Union. He had been a member of the Punjab Public Service Commission.
CM mourns
Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh expressed grief over the demise of Dr Harbhajan Singh Deol. In a condolence message, the Chief Minister described him as a dedicated officer and an excellent human being. — TNS
