Chandigarh, February 9
More associations of traders and industrialists have opposed the fuel and power purchase cost adjustment (FPPCA) charges imposed by the electricity department.
Arun Mahajan, former president of the Industries Association of Chandigarh, in a letter to Administrator VP Singh Bandore, requested him to issue the direction to the Engineering Department to find a permanent solution to the shortage of power.
He said there is a need to increase the allocation of power to the UT as the demand had been increasing day by day.
Mahajan said the department should prepare a concrete case projecting the power requirements of the UT for the next at least 10 years vis-a-vis the availability of power, for allocation of power from the central generating stations on a long-term basis.
Mahajan also requested MP Kirron Kher to raise the issue of shortage of the power in the Parliament.
The Chandigarh Beopar Mandal (CBM) has also filed objections before the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission. Anil Vohra, president, and Charanjiv Singh, chairman of the CBM, said FPPCA charges were highest in the country and they should be abolished immediately.
They also raised the demand to withdraw the fixed charges. Charanjiv Singh said the department should reduce the transmission loss and recover the pending amount from the defaulters also.
