Notorious gangster and sharp shooter Amit Malik, alias Bhura, was brought on a production warrant by the Zirakpur police here today with an aim to probe his role in an attempt-to-murder case registered against his Delhi-based brother Vineet Malik.
Harmandeep Hans, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Dera Bassi, said according to preliminary inputs, Amit Bhura had provided a weapon to Vineet, who allegedly shot at 42-year-old Sanjeev Kumar, a resident of Ram Darbar, Chandigarh, at JM Royale hotel in Harkrishan Enclave, Baltana, on November 15. The victim had sustained a bullet injury near his right ear and was rushed to the PGI, Chandigarh. Two accomplices of Vineet —Naveen Kumar and Raman — were also arrested by the police.
Earlier in the day, amid tight security, a team of 15 police personnel, took Bhura to the court of the Judicial Magistrate. He was remanded in police custody till November 30. Later, he was taken to the Community Health Centre, Dhakoli, for a medical check-up.
The ASP said they had sought four-day police remand of gangster. “Investigation into the case is on. We are looking into all details and circumstances," the ASP said.
The case
As per sources, a total of 52 cases have been registered against Bhura at various police stations of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. In 2014, Bhura had escaped from the custody of the Uttarakhand Police while being taken to a court in Baghpat in connection with a murder case. He had thrown chili powder in the eyes of the cop. He was arrested by the CIA, Patiala, in 2015.
