‘Gatha Jallianwala Bagh’ relives massacre

Chandigarh, April 13

In order to commemorate the massacre of nationalist public at Jallianwala Bagh the North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC), Patiala, teamed up with the Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi (CSNA) to stage a patriotic play ‘Gatha Jallianwala Bagh’ at Tagore Theatre here today.

Written by Anoop Kumar and directed by Mukesh Sharma the play thriving on light sound and music effects deplored the heinous killing of innocent people by the British police on this day in 1919 at the Bagh and also paid tribute to the courage and conviction of Shaheed Udham Singh, who resolved to take revenge from Michael’ O Dyre of the British police for killing of innocent people.

The play depicts how by chance teenagers come to the garden to click some selfies and roam around, which enrage a soldier, who later explains to them how patriot Udham Singh went to England and successfully avenged killing of innocents from General Dyre. He emphasised that the Jallian wala Bagh had a historical importance.

Amateur vocalists mesmerise audience

As many as eight amateur classical vocalists and disciples of guru Pandit Bheem Sen Sharma enraptured the audience at a music soiree ‘Guru Rang’ organised by the Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi ( CSNA) at the Tagore Theatre here today.

The programme commenced with release of a book ‘Swar Samvaad’ authored by Guru Bheem Sain Sharma before all his disciples presented classical ragas.

Rajpal Singh from DU, Delhi, presented raga ‘nat bhav’ and raga ‘kalawati’. Maintaining the pace Brajendra presented raga ‘bhin shadaj’ and ‘rageswari’.

Besides more disciples, including Vidya Sagar, Suresh Sharma, Sanjay Verma, Koshpal Thakur, Sant Ram and Manoj Sharma presented soulful ragas.

Eminent classical vocal gurus Pandit Yashpaul, Premila Puri and Sushil Jain blessed the artistes.
