Karan Gilhotra (38), a Chandigarh-based businessman who hogged the limelight after the International Cricket Council (ICC) termed him a suspected bookie in a letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), holds the post of director in three companies registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India.

According to documents uploaded on the website of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Gilhotra holds the post of director in three companies — Mansarovar Agri Farms Private Limited, Fazilka Estates Private Limited and MRG Agros Private Limited. These companies were registered at the office of the Registrar of Companies in Chandigarh.

In all these companies, the address of the company has been mentioned as 34, New Grain Market, Fazilka, Punjab, whereas Gilhotra’s residential address has been shown as House No. 82, Sector 6, Panchkula. However, Gilhotra had recently shifted to Chandigarh.

Gilhotra's influence, who has often been spotted in the company of politicians, industrialists, cricketers and Bollywood stars, can also be gauged from the fact that he was also given the membership of the Chandigarh Golf Club (CGC), which entertains the elite class of this region, under the club president’s discretionary quota.

Gilhotra was made a midweek (temporary) member of this prestigious club under the president’s discretionary quota in January 2015. Gilhotra was made member by the current president, Birinder Singh Gill. “Yes, he approached the club through some prominent personalities to attain the membership. At that time, his name was not surrounded by any controversy,” said Gill.

“If such allegations get confirmed, necessary action will be taken against the member of the club,” Gill said.
