“Giving the best service to the public will be my key priority,” says Charu Bali, the first woman Commissioner of Police in Panchkula district, who joined her office on Monday. 

A 1995-batch Haryana IPS officer, Bali was awarded a gold medal in MA (women studies) during the convocation at Panjab University in March this year. Talking to The Tribune, she said focusing on the issues of women and children and enhancing the quality of output of department would be her other priorities.

Earlier, while talking to the media, Bali said she would put efforts into increasing the number of CCTV cameras in Panchkula, which would help the police in surveillance. 

Bali also met the ACP (Crime) and officials of the crime branch on Tuesday. She said the crime branch was working on several cases and the results would be out soon.

Charu Bali has held various important positions in the state and the Centre. She has worked on deputation with the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Planning Commission and the UIDAI. In Haryana, she has worked in the Railways, telecommunications and crime wings. Bali completed her law degree from the PU in 1994. She did her MA in women studies while on study leave.
