While the doctors were asked to report for duty, patients did not arrive assuming a public holiday today.

Sources said the  Government Medical College and Hospital-32 authorities had earlier announced a holiday, but canceled one gazette holiday in the wake of the long weekend and kept the hospital OPD services open.

“We decided to keep the OPD services open today in the interest of patients. However, the number of patients at the OPD was relatively lower,” said Ravi Gupta.

The gynaecology and paediatric department wore a deserted look. Only few patients were seen in the ortho OPD.

One of the hospital employees said the authorities should have advertised or made a public announcement to update the residents about the functioning of the OPD.

“It was futile exercise as resident were unaware about functioning of the OPD service and on Monday the OPD will remain closed to Gandhi Jayanti,” the employee.
