The government-run drug de-addiction-cum-rehabilitation centre at Brahman Majra Sirhind has proved a boon for drug addicts in the region.
The drug de-addiction centre not only diagnoses addicts but also ensures that the inmates lead a normal life after leaving the centre.
Ramesh Kumar (name changed), a drug addict, who was hooked to drugs for the last six years and had been undergoing treatment said he was living under stress and the rehab centre has completely changed his life for the better.
He said he was physically, economically and socially boycotted by society and his wife and kids also started hating him.
On the advice of elders my wife contacted a private drug de-addiction centre but their treatment was very costly, he said.
He said he came to know about the government de-addiction centre and met doctors, who along with treatment also provided counselling.
Ramesh said he has completely given up on drugs and lives happily with his wife and kids.
Dr Preet Jot Kaur said any drug victim could approach the drug de-addiction and opioid agonist treatment (OAT) clinics. She said the treatment would be free of cost.
