The Mohali police today arrested a head constable for forging the signatures of the local Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) on loan documents of his colleague here.
The accused, Gurwinder Singh, a head constable posted at the district police headquarters, had forged the signatures of Harpal Singh Sandhu, Mohali SP (Headquarters), on loan documents of Cooperative Bank of a constable.
The matter came to light when officials of the bank came to verify the documents in the SP’s office.
Confirming the development, Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said after registering a case of fraud against the accused at the Phase I police station, they arrested him today.
“I want to make it clear to my staff that anybody found breaking the law will not be spared,” said the SSP.
The police have slapped Sections 420, 67 and 68 of the IPC against the accused, who will be produced in the court tomorrow.
