Panchkula, September 21
A health awareness camp on Alzheimer’s disease was organised at Alchemist Hospital to mark World Alzheimer Day today.
Dr Anurag Lamba, a senior neurologist, said lifestyle interventions might offset elevated Alzheimer’s risk due to genetics or pollution.
He further said, “In India, more than four million people have some form of dementia. At least 44 million people are living with dementia worldwide, making the disease a global health crisis that must be addressed.”
Trouble with memory, specifically difficulty in recalling information that had recently been learned was often the first symptom of Alzheimer’s disease, he said. Dr Lamba said in addition to memory loss, symptoms of the disease included trouble in completing tasks that were once easy, difficulty in solving problems, changes in mood or personality, withdrawing from friends and family, problems with communication, either written or spoken, etc. — TNS
