Kharar, October 15

Though the district administration had banned the entry of heavy vehicles keeping in view the traffic jams on Desu Majra to Khanpur bridge due to the construction of a flyover, it does not seem to have happened.

Mohali Deputy Commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra had ordered that heavy vehicles, including canters, trucks and tractor trolleys, would be banned from Gopal Sweets Chowk to Khanpur Bridge Chowk and from Sawaraj Factory on the Landran road to Khanpur Bridge Chowk with effect from October 15.

The restrictions were imposed in order to speed up the ongoing construction work of the flyover which was causing inconvenience to residents of Kharar and nearby villages.

However, on the first day of the ban on Monday, there was no significant impact of these restrictions. Meanwhile, the traffic police launched a demo on the diversion, which lasted for about two hours and it was decided that the restrictions would be fully implemented from Tuesday onwards.

The traffic police started stopping heavy vehicles at Khanpur bridge around 11 pm, but since the diversion route was not completed, it did not yield any result.

SP Traffic HS Atwal also visited Kharar to take stock of the situation. According to information, a total of 40 police personnel would be deployed for the purpose on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Krishan Sachdeva, Director, National Highway Authority of India, appealed to the people to give full cooperation and said the diversion roads would be made fully operational within 24 hours and proper signboards would be installed on these roads.

He said the widening work of old Morinda road would be completed in one or two days. He said the construction of the flyover would be done at a fast pace after the diversion.

Meanwhile, Kharar SDM Vinod Bansal said it was the first day on Monday so the diversion could not be fully implemented, but it would be fully operational in one or two days.
