Just about a week after the Municipal Corporation scrapped the agreement with M/s Arya Toll Infra Ltd for managing 25 paid parking lots and a multi-level parking in the city, the Punjab and Haryana High Court today dismissed as withdrawn a petition filed by it. The contract with the company was scrapped after three cheques for Rs 1.5 crore issued by the firm in lieu of instalments bounced.

As the petition came up for preliminary hearing, the Division Bench of Chief Justice Krishna Murari and Justice Arun Palli gave the firm the liberty to get the issues resolved through mediation.

The MC had earlier decided to take over the parking lots and run these at the same rates. The order of the termination of the contract was issued by Tilak Raj, Additional Commissioner, MC. The contractor had failed to deposit the seventh installment of the licence fee, amounting to Rs 3,69,50,000, which was due in December 2018. The contractor issued three cheques for Rs 50 lakh each, but these were dishonoured by banks. — TNS
