HSVP plans multi-level parking, hotel, mall on Shalimar ground

To attract investors, the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) has decided to change the plan of a commercial area in Sector 5 here.

The authority has planned to reserve the site behind the Shalimar Mall for a five-star hotel and a mall after constructing a boundary wall there. The sector will also have a multi-level parking and other parking sites. Besides, there will be changes in the road map.

Earlier, the HSVP was to construct its building at the Shalimar ground site. The project was cancelled as the building has been constructed on the main HSVP complex in Sector 6. Now, half an acre each has been reserved for the hotel and the mall. On the remaining area, a multi-level parking will be constructed.

It is pertinent to mention here that the authority had earlier planned to develop Sector 5 on the lines of Sector 17 in Chandigarh but the investors did not evince any interest in commercial sites.

In 2014, the oath-taking ceremony of Haryana MLAs was organised at the same ground. Then, it was announced to beautify and develop the area.

Now, after a period of five years, the work on the project has been started as the elections of the state Assembly are likely to be held along with the Lok Sabha polls.

The HSVP has started constructing the boundary wall to cover the ground area.

NK Payal, Executive Engineer, HSVP, said they were modifying the plan, following which work on it would be taken up.

A survey is also being conducted after receiving suggestions from the planning wing of the HSVP for constructing roads that would pass through the sector. A road will also be constructed to connect the sector with the roads behind the showrooms located near Nirjhar Vatika. A road will also be connected in front of Wah Dilli, a restaurant in Sector 5, so as to facilitate people in crossing the area. There is also a plan to demarcate land behind the HAFED building in the sector for small commercial properties.
