The Income Tax Department, which is celebrating 158 years of its existence, on Tuesday welcomed the ‘Aayakar Jyoti’ which symbolises the endeavour of the department to light the flame of tax compliance in the hearts of all potential taxpayers.
The ‘jyoti’ as part of Income Tax Day celebration was flagged-off on its journey through the jurisdiction of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Pr CCIT), NWR, Chandigarh encompassing five states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Chandigarh.
The ‘jyoti’ returned in Chandigarh on Tuesday, having completed its journey and was received with a ceremonial Guard of Honour by the Pr CCIT, NWR, Chandigarh and Madhu Mahajan IRS. The Olympic gold medallist, Abhinav Bindra, was also present as a guest of honour. Comedian Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi and singers Gurnazar Chattha and Yuvraj Hans also received the ceremonial flame as guests of honour.
Madhu Mahajan, Principal Chief Commissioner, North West Region, Chandigarh, welcomed all stakeholders of the department, the staff and all senior officers.
