In 2016, aid given to poor in 26,130 cases: Justice Misra

“Free legal aid was provided in 26,130 cases to the poor and needy in Punjab in 2016”, said Justice Dipak Misra, Judge, Supreme Court of India-cum-Executive Chairman, National Legal Services Authority, New Delhi, here today.

Justice Misra was in the town to inaugurate the newly-constructed Punjab State Legal Services Authority Complex at Sector 69, here.

Justice Misra said a total of 3,03,395 cases were disposed of with total awards of Rs 1078. 25 crores by various lok adalats, here.

On the occasion, Justice Shiavax Jal Vazifdar, Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court and Patron-In-Chief, Punjab Legal Services Authority, Justice SS Saron, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court and Executive Chairman, Punjab State Legal Services Authority, Justice AK Mittal, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court and Executive Chairman, Haryana State Legal Services Authority and Justice Surya Kant, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court and Executive Chairman, State Legal Services Authority, Chandigarh, were also present.

Justice Misra added that the Legal Assistance Establishment (LAE) in the Punjab State Legal Services Authority was having exclusive facilities like helpline No.1968, dedicated landline telephone (0172-2216690), dedicated e-mail (lae.punjab@pulsa.gov.in), videoconferencing with DLSAs and jails, internet facilities for accessing the websites of Supreme Court, Punjab and Haryana High Court, district courts in the state, NALSA, other important courts/tribunals and availing information from website of PULSA itself. They even had services of legal aid lawyers for dispensing legal aid and advice and services of PLVs to assist the legal aid lawyer and to help the litigants in filling up forms for legal aid.
