Institute told to pay Rs 6 lakh to student

The State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has directed OXL School of Media to pay Rs 6 lakh to a Patiala resident for failing to conduct annual examination in a multimedia diploma course.

The original order was announced on February 18 this year, but was challenged. Shivam Malhotra had complained that he was lured by the institute’s advertisement regarding OXL Triple Advantage Programme. He took admission in BSc (Multimedia) in July 2013. The total fee was Rs 2.7 lakh and till November 2015, he had paid Rs 2.9 lakh. However, the institute failed to conduct annual exam and handed over a diploma certificate in December

Compensation for causing mental agony

The State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has directed OXL School of Media to refund Rs 2. 9 lakh to the complainant and further ordered it to pay Rs 3 lakh instead of Rs 50,000 awarded by the forum earlier as compensation for mental agony and harassment caused to to the complainant.
