Internal roads cry for repair

Patiala, May 5
Internal roads in various parts of the city are awaiting recarpeting despite the fact that the PWD and the Municipal Corporation are repairing major roads in the city at a cost of Rs 53 crore and Rs 7 crore, respectively.
The PWD is repairing the roads connecting the Sheesh Mahal with Ghalori Gate, Dakala Road along Chhoti Nadi, Upper and Lower Mall Road, Rajbagh Road and the Patiala-Sanaur road.
The MC is carrying out the repair work in Mathura Colony, near Rajindra Lake and the Hira Bagh focal point. The MC is also fixing interlocking tiles near Arya Samaj Chowk and Hanuman Mandir.
However, select roads in Gurdarshan Nagar near Pratap Nagar have not been carpeted even once.
Notably, the foundation stone for these works was laid during the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regime.
Similar cases can be seen in areas of Badungar where the roads have been ignored since long. The roads are in a poor condition in Pratap Nagar as well.
When contacted, Municipal Corporation officials said the internal roads would be carpeted after the work on the main roads was completed.
Sandeep, a resident of Ragho Majra, said, “Roads in our locality are in a deplorable condition but officials say these will be repaired later. If the work is further delayed, the rainy season will be here and it will have to be put off again.”
