Top seeds Ishaque Eqbal and Arthi Muniyan lived up to their reputation as they won their respective final matches to claim the men’s and women’s singles titles on the concluding day of The Tribune State Tennis Championship at the CLTA Complex, Sector 10, here today.
Eqbal was ruthless against Rishi Reddy as he packed off the second seed 6-2 6-1 to race to the title.
Arthi continued her impressive run to quell the challenge from third seed Harshita Chugh. After a cautious beginning Arthi sealed the opening set 6-4 and then blazed to 6-1 victory in the second to lay her hands on the winners’ trophy.
Shraey Vir, Bhumika shine
In The Tribune CLTA-AITA Champion Series (CS-7) Tennis Tournament, Shraey Vir stunned second seed Aarush Sharma 6-2 6-0 to claim the boys’ U-14 title, while second seed Bhumika Gupta of Punjab overcame third seed Sia Mahajan of Himachal Pradesh in a marathon three-setter to win the girls’ U-14 final.
Bhumika took the head start with a 6-4 win in the opening set, but Sia fought back to claim the second set 7-6(4). Bhumika, however, pulled up her socks to seize the decider 6-1 and clinch the title.
Justice Jaswant Singh, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court, and CLTA patron Justice SS Sodhi, a former Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, later awarded the winners.
CLTA honorary secretary Sudhir Rajpal, founder and patron-in-chief Rajan Kashyap and CLTA member executive Reet Mohinder Singh and Banta Singh were also part of the concluding ceremony.
Dimple Singh, head, marketing, Government sales, The Tribune, and Megh Raj, chief operating officer, CLTA, also attended the prize distribution function.
