Patients seeking treatment at the PGI here may have to endure their pain for a few more days as around 250 doctors from 48 departments of the hospital will proceed on holiday from May 15 till June 14.
An elderly man who was busy buying medicines from a chemist at Gol Market at the PGI, said: “The doctor has told me that he was going abroad to spend summer vocation with his family. He will not be available for nearly a month so he has told me to continue the course of medicine till then.”
There are around 500 resident doctors at the PGI. While nearly 250 doctors will proceed on leave from May 15 to June 14, the next batch will remain on holiday from June 16 to July 15. There are a few doctors who will remain on leave in both phases i.e. from May till July.
On the other hand, Public Relation officer of the PGI Manju Wadwalker said the OPD services would continue uninterrupted as per routine. Nearly 2,000 resident doctors would remain on duty, said Wadwalker.
Some doctors are on vacations but they do attend the hospital as per requirement. June 15 would be the common day when all members of the faculty will be on duty and handover the charge to their counterparts. People can also contact the PGI reception to know the details about the availability of the doctors.
