Chandigarh, January 5
India’s Iqbal Mohammad Khan stunned top seed Adil Karimov of Uzbekistan 6-3 6-4 in the boys’ second round qualifying match on the opening day of the ITF Junior Circuit (Grade-3) Championship at the CLTA Complex, Sector 10, here, on Saturday.
Fifth seed Ajay Malik of India moved into final qualifying round after he registered a 6-3 7-6(4) win over Abhay Mohan. Thomas George Brun of Switzerland surprised third seed Prasanna Pravin Bagade of India 6-3 6-2, while second seed Uddayvir Singh came from behind to beat his Indian counterpart Rishi Jalota.
Uddayvir lost the opening set 4-6, but came back strongly to win the next two sets 6-2 6-3 to move ahead.
Sixth seed Nishant Dabas downed Chirag Duhan 6-1 6-2, while eighth seed Deepender Grewal edged past Kartik Parhar 6-3 6-3 in the qualifiers. Vansh Kapoor upset seventh seed Paramasivam Subash 6-4 6-2.
In the girls’ singles, Mahika Gupta of USA upset third seed Archita Mahalwal of India 6-1 6-1 in the second round of the qualifiers.
The final qualifying matches in both boys’ and girls’ categories will be played on Sunday.
