Patiala, November 4
A jail inmate, undergoing 20-year imprisonment in a murder case, has now been arrested by the intelligence wing’s Organised Crime Control Unit (OCCU) allegedly for passing drugs to gangsters inside the Central Jail Patiala.
The accused, Ramesh Kumar of Lalru, was lodged in the Patiala jail from the past five years and was on parole since August. “Jail wing constable Karamjot Sharma used to hand over drugs to Ramesh Kumar who would later pass them on to gangsters inside the jail,” said Bikramjit Brar, head, CIA, Rajpura.
The intelligence wing’s Organised Crime Control Unit (OCCU) had on Wednesday arrested Assistant Jail Superintendent Rupa Singh and jail wing constable Karamjot Sharma, both posted at the Central Jail here, for alleged links with Gandhi Group Student Union (GGSU) leaders Harman Virk Samana and Armaan Cheema who were arrested on Tuesday allegedly for supplying drugs and weapons to gangsters lodged in jails.
“Karamjot Sharma confessed that she bought items handed over to her by the student leaders and hid them in her scooter and later handed it over to Ramesh or Rupa,” said Brar.
