Jal Shakti Abhiyan launched

The Jal Shakti Abhiyan, a flagship scheme of the Centre to conserve water, has been launched in the city.
As a part of the scheme, Eco-Club Day was celebrated in 114 government and private schools today. The theme was water conservation and tree plantation. More than 20,000 students from all schools took part in various activities.
The abhiyan includes water conservation and rainwater harvesting, renovation of traditional and other water bodies/tanks, reuse and recharge structures and intensive afforestation.
UT Adviser Manoj Parida was the chief guest at GMSSS, Sector 16. He flagged off a rally of 500-600 students. Under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan, ‘Jal Andolan’, a tree plantation drive was carried out in which more than 100 students of the school participated. — TNS
