Chandigarh, November 1
Hundreds of passengers were left stranded at the Chandigarh Railway Station due to the delay in the arrival of Jan Shatabdi train here today.
The train, which is scheduled to reach the station at 7.40 am, ran nearly three-hour late and reached here around 10.45 am.
No information was given to passengers as to why the train was running late. Several passengers complained that they had to cancel their meetings due to the delay in the train.
One of the passengers, who was travelling along with his wife, said: “I had an appointment with a doctor at Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Hospital for the treatment of my wife. But I do not think I would make it on time. To top it all, the railway authorities did not inform us about the delay.”
Suresh Kumar, who boarded a train from Ropar, said instead of launching a bullet train, the railway authorities should first ensure that the trains reach the station on time.
“We are anxiously waiting for the arrival of the train for over two hours. We have no idea when the train will arrive. Half-and-hour delay is understandable, but delay of over nearly three hours is just not acceptable,” said another passenger.
Commuters were seen visiting the office of the station superintendent and the office of other railway employees to find out the reason behind the delay. Finally the train reached here at 10.45 am.
Station Superintendent TP Singh said the train was delayed due to some maintenance work. Jan Shatabdi train heads from Nangal and halts at Ropar and Mohali before reaching the Chandigarh railway station.
