Chandigarh, October 26
About 4 lakh square feet occupied by judicial records is expected to be reclaimed, with the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice Krishna Murari, launching a project of digitisation in subordinate courts at 11 pilot sites in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.
The project for digitisation of judicial records was launched through videoconferencing for curtailing the use and handling of huge volumes of physical files and to save space in judicial record rooms.
Files of pending and disposed of cases, in which weeding process has been completed, would be covered in the process of scanning and digitisation. The process would ensure easy retrieval and preservation and archival of the case record in digitised form.
Space would be available at prime location in the subordinate courts. Manpower engaged for handling files would also be saved.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court computer committee, under the chairmanship of Justice Rajesh Bindal, had earlier shortlisted 11 sessions divisions — Ambala, Rohtak, Panipat, Kurukshetra, Hisar, Kaithal and Faridabad in Haryana; and Ropar, Patiala and Nawanshahr in Punjab, along with Chandigarh as pilot sites for the project.
Launching the project, the Chief Justice interacted with the district and sessions judges of the sessions divisions through videoconferencing and laid emphasis on successful implementation of the project.
The committee members, Justice Surinder Gupta, Justice Arun Palli and Justice BS Walia, were also present.
