Kaavya Sawhney and Prinkle Singh registered a 6-1 6-2 win over Japan’s Yuna Chashi and Aesha Patel of USA to book a place in the girls’ doubles quarterfinals in the ongoing ITF Juniors Circuit World Ranking (Grade-III) Tennis Tournament here today.
The top seed Indian pair of Akanksha Bhan and Vaidehi Chaudhari, though, made an early exit after succumbing to the Dutch pair of Juile Belgraver and Isabelle Haverlag. The duo lost 1-6 2-6 in a lop-sided per-quarterfinal match at the CLTA Complex, Sector 10.
Brandon-Eric rally ahead
In the boys’ doubles category, top seed pair of Brandon Perez from Venezuela and Ukraine’s Eric Vanshelboim rallied from a set down to oust Indian challengers Dev Javia and Karan Srivastava.
The visitors lost the opening set 5-7 but came back strongly to beat Javia and Srivastava 7-6(5) 10-5 in the next two sets to seal a spot in the quarterfinals.
In another pre-quarterfinal tie, Rithvik Choudhary Bollipalli and Abhimanyu Vannemreddy bowed to Korean duo of Dong Ju Kim and Minjong Park. The Indian duo lost 7-5 7-6(4).
Yasir beats Uddayvir
Meanwhile, in the boys’ singles first round, top seed Yasir Kilani of Morocco mastered India’s Uddayvir Singh 7-6(7) 6-3, while second seed Sacchitt Sharma registered a 6-2 6-1 win over Morocco’s Soufiane El Mesbahi.
Madhwin Kamath came back from a set down to beat Chinese Xinmu Zhou.
Kamath lost the first set 4-6, but bounced back to claim the match with 7-6(5) 6-3 win in the next two sets.
Third seed Venezuela’s Perez Brandon eased into the second round after handing a 6-2 6-3 drubbing to Rithvik Choudhary Bollipalli.
Vaibhavi moves into Rd 2
In the girls’ singles, third seed Vaibhavi Chaudhari tamed Jade Bornay of France 6-0 7-6(4) to ease into the second round, while second seed Akanksha Bhan overwhelmed Hong Kong’s Hoi Ki Jenny Wong 6-3 6-4. Fourth seed Shivani Amineni registered a 6-2 6-3 win over Japan’s Yuna Ohashi.
India’s Richa Dadasaheb Chougule crashed out after facing a 1-6 3-6 loss to fifth seed Janice Tjen of Indonesia.
