The Government Museum and Art Gallery commemorated its  50 years of excellence with a kathak recital by acclaimed  Lucknow Gharana doyenne  Saumya Shukla today.

Saumya Shukla, the foremost disciple of   guru Nrityashri Alaknanda, commenced  her recital with Ganesh vandana “Pratham sumir sri Ganesh”. She depicted of the monsoon season through a composition, “Bhoolat raje navra saawan”, showing Lord Krishna with his divine consort Radha.

 Similarly, she brought alive the Holi celebrations in her dance composition, “Mein toh khelun hori”. She concluded with a crisp “tarana”, symbolising the royal court of a Mughal king.

Chief guest Jitendra Yadav, Director, Cultural Affairs, said all classical dances could be popularised through innovative and interactive methods making them easy to understand as done by Soumya Shulka through her Kathak  recital.
