Women working in parking lots are facing a tough time handling visitors. Complaints of misbehaviour are rising by the day, they say.

While the progressive step taken by Arya Toll Infra Limited to employ more women as parking attendants was well received, the increasing number of such cases has thrown a major challenge before the company. Sources said the Municipal Corporation had recently taken up the matter with the police.

Joint Commissioner of the MC had written to the police to take immediate action in case they received complaints from them. The company has also asked its women staff to note down the registration number of vehicles in case of harassment or misbehaviour.

One of the officials of the company said the problem was rampant in areas having bars. He said they were contemplating shifting the women staff from such parking lots. Arya Toll Infra Limited, which has been entrusted with the task of managing 26 parking lots in the city, including the multi-level parking lot in Sector 17, has deputed more than 60 per cent woman employees. Sandeep Vohra, project director of the company, said ensuring women’s safety was their priority and steps were being taken in this direction. He said that self-defence training was also imparted to the staff.
